Once installed on you system, the Payflow Pro API client software establishes a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection between your merchant storefront application and VeriSign's transaction servers to securely exchange payment data between parties.

1. A customer visits your Web site and makes a purchase.

2. The transaction data is then passed from your storefront to the Payflow Pro client.

3. VeriSign collects the transaction information from your site and then securely routes the transaction via the VeriSign payment gateway through the financial network to the appropriate bank, ensuring that customers are authorized to make their purchases.

4. The Payflow client also sends an acknowledgment back to VeriSign after returning the payment results to you, thus protecting your consumers from double billing caused by Internet latency or broken communication sessions.

5. The funds for the transaction will be transferred to your Internet merchant account.

The Payflow client does not contain any payment-specific logic, allowing VeriSign to introduce additional services or transaction types at any time without requiring you to upgrade your Payflow client software. You can take advantage of these services by simply adding any new requisite parameter values to transaction requests.
